Films & Events GUIDE

IT'S HERE AND IT'S QUEER! It's the promo for the 21st Annual Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival!

We are honoured and humbled to present to you an amazing line up of films - shorts packages, documentaries, narratives, comedy, tragedy, something bold, something blue, something for all, something for you!

In light of recent elections, as part of a global narrative, Calgary Queer Arts Society invites you to come on out to the New Central Library May 24th - June 2nd and share stories with our community and remember that we are stronger together. We laugh longer, love harder, fight onwards!

THANK YOU TO OUR 2019 SPONSORS

Over the last 21 years, Fairy Tales, Calgary's Queer Film Festival, has grown from a fledgeling, volunteer-run off-shoot of The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, to become one of Canada’s largest LGBTQ2A+ film festivals.

We are so grateful for our sponsors and supporters! Make sure you visit them and and take advantage of these great deals for festival ticket holders during the festival!

1) Who is your festival for?
We welcome everyone! We have programming suited for all ages and demographics across the LGBTQ2A+ spectrum, and we also encourage allies to attend. We have accessible ticket pricing for students, seniors, artists and new Canadians. Some of our events are free to attend, and you can see movies for free simply by volunteering.

2) How do I purchase tickets?
When it comes to ticketing, we offer a variety of options: Full Festival Passes, 3-Film Flex Passes, and individual tickets. Tickets for Fairy Tales are now available!

3) What if I want to exchange my tickets?
While we do not offer refunds on purchased tickets, we can happily exchange your tickets as long as it is in advance of a screening. Simply email tickets@calgaryqueerartssociety.com.

4) Where is your venue and what is it like?
Most of the festival screenings will take place at the New Central Library (800 3 st SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0E7). Best of Hump will be held at The Plaza Theatre in Kensington (1133 Kensington Road NW, Calgary, AB).

Accessibility is important to us. Both the New Central Library and The Plaza Theatre are wheelchair accessible, offer gender neutral washrooms, ASL or subtitles are available on all films, and of course there is a concession if you'd like to buy popcorn or snacks. The festival is fully licensed, so we also offer beer or wine to enjoy while watching films.

5) How do you select films for your festival?
All our programming is selected by a volunteer programming committee, through a democratic process that seeks to represent stories from across the LGBTQ2A+ spectrum. Members of our programming committee are available on sight after each film. We welcome you to join us for a chat about the films and our programming selections. For further questions, please contact James Demers at exec@calgaryqueerartssociety.com.

6) How do I get involved?
We are a charitable, nonprofit organization that relies on our fantastic volunteers, sponsors and funders to bring our programming to life and amplify diverse stories from across Canada and the world. If you would like to support Fairy Tales, we'd love to have you as a volunteer, sponsor or donate!

7) What if I have more questions, or a spectacular idea I want to share with you?
Great! Please contact Erin Jenkins with any further questions or comments: operations@calgaryqueerartssociety.com
