Our Favourite Moments from Calgary Pride 2018
From August 24 to September 3, thousands of people took part in Calgary’s annual Pride Festival, making 2018 the city’s largest pride festival to date! To all who joined in on the fun, we’d like to send a huge THANK YOU! Together, we are building an inclusive city, and future, where everyone belongs.
Pride is all about celebrating how far we’ve come, while acknowledging how far we still have to go. Calgary Pride events provide a space for the LGBTQ2+ community to come together, shed light on the importance of inclusivity and queer culture, and develop a sense of belonging.
Here are some of our favourite moments from Calgary Pride 2018.
Pride in Vic Park Kick Off (August 25 - August 26)
We couldn’t have asked for a better Pride in Vic Park Kickoff celebration. We were lucky enough to serve as a partnering organization for this exceptional event at Central Memorial Park, and it did not disappoint! We’d like to send a special shoutout to all of the amazing artists who performed, and to all of the partner organizations who helped make Pride in Vic Park so special!
Premier's Pride Brunch for Camp fYrefly (September 1)
Thanks to our friends at Husky, we were invited to attend the Premier’s Pride Brunch in support of Camp fYrefly. The event was hosted by Mr. Mike Morrison of Mike’s Bloggity Blog, who did an amazing job facilitating a special morning, which honoured and celebrated the sexual and gender minority youth of our community.
Pride Parade (September 2)
Who doesn’t LOVE the Pride Parade - the signature event that colours all of downtown Calgary with rainbows and smiles! Originally a small march of LGBT Calgarians, some of whom wore masks and bags over their faces to protect from persecution, the event has grown in leaps and bounds to become the second biggest parade in Calgary. This year, we were cruising in style thanks to Andrews Auto Gallery with both RBC and the Katimavik students marching by our side.
Rocky Horror Picture Show (September 2 - September 3)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a highly anticipated fan favourite at Calgary Pride, and after checking out these photos you’ll see why! Together with The Calgary Underground Film Festival and Hole in the Wall Studios, we hosted the annual screening with our unique live pre-show featuring performances by Phil, Fake Mustache and Clint Torres. Costumes and full audience participation was encouraged and well received!
